How to Make Winter Your Most Creative Season

Winter has a tendency to get a lot of us down.  But there are a lot of beautiful things about this season.  Let’s let the cozy fires and the clean, crisp beauty of the snow inspire us to create, and allow winter to be the most creative season!

Here are a 5 things you can try.

I don’t know about you, but a good snow day call for baking!  My son and I love to pull out the cookies sheets and mixer on a blustery day.  There is something warm and cozy about baking when the wind is howling and the snow is flying outside the window.

Get out for a Paint Night

Painting Class

These are so popular.  There is sure to be one near you.  It is a great way to get out of the house and socialize with friends!  Whether you are quite familiar with a paint brush or haven’t touched one since you were in kindergarten, you are sure to have a great time!

Give Knitting a Try!

I have made a large number of knitted squares in my life, with a plan to someday make a blanket.  This being said, you can see that I am not an avid knitter, but there is something cozy about curling up on the coach with a warm blanket and a set of knitting needles. If you are an experienced knitter, I think you can agree that this is a great way to be creative during the winter!

Visit a Local Art Gallery

There are a few reasons why you should visit an art gallery this winter.

  1. Be inspired.  Be inspired by the greats!  Depending on the galleries you visit, you are likely to see the best in contemporary art.  Nothing boosts your own personal creativity more than visiting art galleries.
  2.  Learn something new!  As a mother, I am always looking for activities to do with my kids.  I know our local art gallery often offers art workshops for kids and adults!  This is a great way to get out in the cold of winter and be creative!  Also, a good art gallery will have friendly staff that can tell you all about the piece of art, and often something about the artist.
  3. Just Plain Fun!  Yes, art is just plain FUN! Art teaches and reveals who we are to ourselves.  Galleries often offer events that you can attend.  These are great ways to get together with others in your community to have FUN!
